The end of cigarettes? The UK aims to be smoke free by 2030
..The British Ministry of Health presented an action plan to reduce the number of smokers in the country to a minimum by the end of the decade.
The four critical actions include:
Increasing the financial investment for smoking cessation treatment.
Raising the selling age from 18 in one year, every year without a target number.
Promoting vaping (smoking substitutes/e-cigarettes) as a harm reduction approach to help people stop smoking tobacco.
Prevention must become a central focus in the tobacco control efforts of the health authorities.
And what about Israel?
As of this moment, the reference to smoking substitutes such as electronic cigarettes and tobacco heating products is that they are "just like regular cigarettes" and are subject to all the laws and regulations that apply to cigarettes, including high taxation just like regular cigarettes
The annual smoking report published by the Ministry of Health shows that the proportion of smokers in Israel has remained unchanged in recent years, and stands at about 20% of the population, while recent estimates by other bodies such as the Smoking Eradication Initiative and the Klalit Health Insurance Fund are that the number of smokers is much higher and varies around 27%.
