A Beginner’s Guide: How to Use IQOS
Here’s our guide on how to use IQOS ILUMA, so you can get the most out of your experience as a new user.

How do you use IQOS?
First things first, you’ll need to make sure that your IQOS is charged. If you’re using it for the first time, make sure you charge the pocket charger for the full 90 minutes.
- Remove the holder from the pocket charger.
- Slide TEREA tobacco stick into the holder. Make sure you only use TEREA sticks with your IQOS ILUMA. They are single use so ensure you do not reinsert a used one.
- There will be one vibration, and the light will pulses slowly. When the device will vibrate twice and the LED light is solid white, you can start using the IQOS. You can use it for up to six minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first.
- Two vibrations and when the light starts to pulse again indicate that the heating cycle is ending and you have two puffs or 30 seconds remaining (the earliest). The light then goes off and the experience has finished.
- To finish, pull the tobacco stick out of the holder.
Never use cigarettes in your IQOS. Only use the specially designed and produced tobacco sticks.
How to charge IQOS
1. Tap the button on your IQOS ILUMA Pocket Charger to check its battery level. If the bottom of the light strip flashes yellow 3 times this means the battery is low on charge. Charge the Pocket Charger with the manufacturer-approved power adaptor. Please note that it can take up to 20 minutes to have a light pattern if it was deeply discharged. When the status bar (light strip) is fully lit up, your device is fully charged and can be used up to 20 experiences.
2. Check the status lights on your IQOS ILUMA Holder. Two round lights mean your Holder is fully charged and ready for two uses. One light means you only have one use left. If the lower light blinks yellow 3 times this indicates, you need to recharge your Holder.
3. Remove the TEREA stick and insert the Holder in the Pocket Charger. The two round lights on the Pocket Charger will indicate how the Holder is charging and remain on when you have one or two uses available.
Charging your IQOS ILUMA Pocket Charger daily is the best way to ensure you can always enjoy your IQOS. Always charge the Pocket Charger with the manufacturer-approved power adaptor.
